E-KILIMO ACCELERATOR. Technology For Food Security and Agriculture. Startups Accelerator.

e-Kilimo is a startup accelerator leveraging on the digital tools and technology advancement to accelerate the growth of ideas and startups that can create impact in the food and agriculture sector. The accelerator is aiming at supporting early-stage ideas and startups in the sector through mentoring, technical support and seed funds.
e-Kilimo offers funding support to Agritech Startups at two stages of the programme; 

Phase One | Startups that successful qualifies for the acceleration (validation) phase, 8 startups gets a chance of receiving $1000.

SEEDSTARS WORLD 2018

 2018 Seedstars World, the largest startup competition for emerging markets, is back in Africa to scout for the top high growth startups and entrepreneurs and accelerate them on their path to global scaling.
On this 2018 edition of the tour, we will visit over 20+ cities across Sub-Saharan Africa to hosting bootcamps and pitch competitions, Countries such as Mauritius and Zambia, amongst others, will host local competitions for the first time, enlarging the impact of Seedstars mission in the continent. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • You have a very strong management team of at least 3 people;
  • Your team is based in one or more countries on the African continent;

SELECTION CRITERIA

Innovativeness and Scalability (25%)
Your company addresses a real problem in the market in a clearly innovative way. Your product or service is different to others in the industry. Your business model is new, disruptive and designed for scale.
Strategy for Growth (25%)
There is potential to expand into new markets or expand at home. You have a clear strategy how to grow your company and we can see demonstrable progress in terms of customer acquisition plans, new contracts, and key partnerships.
Management team (25%)
The team has the qualifications needed to make the business successful.
Market Traction & Financials (25%)
We will evaluate your market traction and look at the potential market size. We’ll also look at your business model, revenue streams and unit economics, and if any outside funding has been raised before.

If you are selected for the Showcase, you are expected to:
  • Engage with assigned mentors (partner VC investors) and VC4A team to prepare your 3-minute and 20-minute presentations, as well as 2-pagers with investor data as part of the deal book;

Contest for Youth Engagement in Energy, Water, & Transport

International Finance Corporation (IFC) and International Youth Foundation (IYF) have launched a new publication Creating Value Through Global Youth Engagement: A Smart Investment for the Infrastructure and Natural Resource Industries.  To highlight cases and best practices of engaging youth in the workforce, IFC is hosting a contest inviting young people to submit multimedia projects on the youth report’s themes and/or write-ups of examples of innovative youth engagement in action.
Engaged and mobilized youth can help energy, water, and transport sectors reach core business goals, core infrastructure and community development objectives. While it takes many forms, youth engagement offers tremendous opportunities for companies in emerging markets to prepare the next fast-growing generation of skilled workers, including young women; develop new value chains; mitigate sustainability risks; bolster local and national economic development; and capitalize on technical innovations and evolving communications.
The contest aims to inspire and create a dialogue on innovative ways to engage young people while addressing some of the problems and needs of communities and companies.
Eligibility Requirements
·         The Competition is open to individuals aged 15 to 30 (herein defined as “Participants”).
·         Participants’ ages will be determined as of 11:59 pm EST on August 6, 2018.

The USAID Boresha Afya – Southern Zone is a five year (1 October 2016 – 30 September 2021) program supported by the American People through United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Main purpose of the job
The Grants & Finance Intern is responsible for providing support to Regional Grants and Finance Officers .
This position reports directly to Grants & Finance Officer and Grants Manager.
What you will do/Specialized Competencies:
  • Review and ensure that sub grantees comply with supporting documents as per USAID rules and regulations before submission to the Senior Grants & Finance Officer;
  • Ensure that all accountabilities are updated and all activities are carried out in accordance to agreed budget of the signed contract;
  • Monitor grantee advance and liquidation balances closely and ensure timely monthly liquidations;
  • Review all payment requests to ensure that they meet the allowable, allocable and reasonable standards;
  • Review financial reports from grantees and ensure compliance against program description and grants budget;
  • Capture sub grantee accountabilities in the Grants Management System (GMS);
  • Ensure sub grantees perform monthly reconciliation of their accounts (bank reconciliation statement, cashbook, etc.);
  • Ensure that grant documentation is maintained according to Deloitte/ project standards and USAID policies so that they can be audited with minimal or less findings;
  • Assist with proper filling of all correspondence with sub grantees especially on contractual, programmatic and financial changes;
  • Ensure sub grantees are well informed of any changes that are made to their sub agreements;
  • To assist S/RGO's in filling/documenting of grants and finance documents by photocopying ,scanning , and placing documents in proper files and labeling files (i.e. documents for statutory deductions ,PAYE, pension contributions ,time sheets, documents for CHWs allowances payment etc..
  • Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time
